The New Anxiety Pill — Action
Sometimes…more often that I would care to admit, I get a little anxious. Usually it is the good anxious…an excited anticipation for the pending surprise. However, it can turn into an annoying anxiety when the surprise doesn’t reveal itself on my schedule.
Christmas is long passed, so lets think of that wonderful anticipation of what may be inside that package under the tree on Christmas morning. You run up to it and then stare at it waiting for the surprise.
Guess what, it won’t open itself. Just like the robin looking for it’s worm … there is action required.
I took a long look at my cornucopia colored calendar and got a little freaked out. It wasn’t because there was too much to do or that I didn’t want to do it. I became anxious for all of it to be done. Like a 1890′s winter in Nashville, I froze, hard.
I brought it up to an advisor who pulled me from the funk by helping me understand, or remind me, that I am a creative person and needed to erase a few lines from my box.
To live an artful life means believing that you are smart enough to take each moment and make it something special. You can create something in every situation that is innovative and significant to the next steps in your journey. I love to plan, but if I overplan, I can’t act and that causes anxiety and the cycle begins.
So, I went into my prescheduled color-coded world and erased some of the lines so that creativity could get in. Give yourself the space on your on calendar today and tell me what happens. It’s time to start opening those presents!
